We are excited to present the Dr. Augustus Nathaniel Lushington Impact Award for Black Excellence! This award recognizes exemplary veterinary students that are making a real difference for the Black community. Open to Veterinary Technician and Veterinarian Students, winners of the Dr. Augustus Nathaniel Lushington Impact Award for Black Excellence will receive up to $5,000 to help them in their student journey.
Augustus Nathaniel Lushington, VMD, became the first black person to earn a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (VMD) degree in the United States. Dr. Lushington was a dedicated student, a lifelong teacher, and a superior practitioner. He faced enormous odds to fulfill his dreams, and many challenges throughout his life. Still, he believed in working together to improve the lives of all. We thank Dr. Lushington for his contribution to the profession.
